This illustration reflects compassion cultivated through empathy. The symmetry represents a shared humanity that compassion extends beyond all barriers and differences. Moving upward from the hands, the floral elements intertwine to illustrate the joy of human connection. But there are also thorns, falling petals, and rain to represent the challenges and pain of being human. Compassion requires consciousness of another’s suffering, and in those moments it compels us to respond with kindness.

Three-color letterpress print as part of the Holstee Membership, a monthly subscription which includes a unique art print and engaging mindfulness guide. The theme for this month was compassion. I began on paper to refine the concept and elements, then drew in Adobe Illustrator to allow me to work with clean crisp lines, curves, and symmetry.
